What Does Recreational Insurance Cover?

Recreational insurance covers vehicles that are not cars. This includes:

  • Marine vehicles such as boats, jet skis, and Sea-Doos

  • Off-roading vehicles like dirt bikes, golf carts, and ATVs

  • Motorhomes and RVs

  • Travel trailers that are used seasonally or for a permanent home.

  • 5th wheel trailers

What Is Recreational Insurance?

If you own any of the above recreational vehicles, you will need recreational insurance to give you the peace of mind to enjoy them. The most common uses for recreational insurance are for boats and RVs. As insurance agents in North Carolina, our goal is to help you understand your insurance options so you can find a plan.

Boat Insurance

The two most common types of boat insurance policies are liability and physical damage. Liability covers your legal obligations in case of injury to a person or damage to property. While boating is a fun activity, it can also be dangerous, so liability insurance might suit your needs. Boat insurance also can include physical damage coverage, which would cover any accidental harm to the boat itself and the personal property on it.

RV Insurance

RV insurance is similar to auto insurance, but it is specialized for these large vehicles. The basic types of coverage are liability, uninsured/underinsured, and collision. Liability coverage for RVs, similar to boats, will cover damages that you cause to other vehicles or people. It is required that RV owners have liability insurance policies. If you are worried that someone without insurance may cause damage to your RV in an accident, you will want to include uninsured/underinsured coverage in your plan. Collision coverage will pay for damages to your RV if you are in an accident with another vehicle or object regardless of fault. And finally, a comprehensive coverage policy will cover miscellaneous damages not caused by collisions, such as theft or hail damage.
